Voter Registration After Citizenship: How to Vote in Canada

Your Voting Rights

Upon citizenship, you're eligible to vote in federal, provincial, and municipal elections. This is one of main benefits of citizenship.

How to Register

Elections Canada registers you automatically using census/tax data if eligible. Or register at poll on election day. Bring ID (citizenship certificate counts).

Types of Elections

Federal (Parliament): Every 4 years (approximately). Provincial: Every 4 years. Municipal: Every 4 years. Voting is encouraged but not mandatory (unlike some countries).
